Stress Skin
Stress. I was in a conversation as of late when the subject of stress skin came up.
The idea of building with it. The name is so interesting. As a building technique it is a way of thinking differently. It is not very ecological, unless you consider the R factor and the use of reused materials such as chip board. There have been advances in the production of chip board but they are fundamentally out side of the safe building materials.
But I was in a conversation about stress skin. The conversation was at one point mostly about liner notes of just about every musician that could be thought of. But there was this one part that was about Stress Skin.
The poolhouse will get worked on tomorrow. The goal will to be to make a circle. 14 diameter circle betwen 8 and 9 feet of the ground. In a very center of the poolhouse.
In the near future it will be left open to the sky.
The stress skin is something that was very successfully used in one of the shanties the shanties last year. It has a number of advantages. It is light. It is ridgid and solid. It can be structural. One issue the media shanty has is the amount of space around the windows for structure. Stress skin may not work in such small situations as between the windows. But the name, stress skin. Such an interesting image. Many new homes and buildings are using various versions of stress skin. There is something not so intuitive about the product. Using it in a house can usurp a number of trades. The engineering of it is the kind of thing that someone who plans way ahead would like.
It must determined if the shanty will fit in the preposed roof opening. If it will not it might be something I need to consider. Does the shanty change shape to fit in the hole or does the openign change to fit the shanty?

Farewell Andromeda
One of the side tracks that are going on while I am deciding on the
extent of the rebuilding. Is the birdhouse radios.
I have been trying to connect a solar power charger to the radio so
It will switch on at night so I do not have to worry about power. One
this technology is conquered it will be on to the birdhouses
themselves. The prototype is looking very interesting.

Laundry
How many people when they get to the bottom of the hamper find unused
Saws all blades.
Somethings have been happening.
The roof come down. Safely. It is now being toted to the dump. The
back of the truck is being filled as we speak.
Tomorrow I will load another part of the pile.
The pool is there. A neighbor commented classy. What should read into
that?
They can come and sit the pool and tell me all about it.
There is something going on with the shape of the pool.
One end we can call it the north end is lower than the rest of the pool.
It is almost egg shaped. I am trying to understand why it is taking
this shape.
I am guessing that it is not level. It is a little hard to believe.
The disk was put down on such a level part of the back yard.
But yet it is misshapen.
One person has the idea that the bottom of the pool is scrunched up
enough to cause the deformity.
To me I do find it kind of odd. Something to contemplate.
There is a new element becoming more pronounced?
The light in the ally, used to illuminate and create a safe place, is
becoming a very interesting problem.
One listener has chimed in with working with the light.
I was adamant about how it had to to be able to be eliminated.
What am I thinking? How am I supposed to live in this open roofed
structure with this bright bright security light shining down all night.
Another of the observers has told me that they are going to knock it
out every 3 weeks.
Could the city be contacted to move the light?
Can you imagine that conversation? It would end in permits.
What ever is done in the end and some what quickly it needs to be
sorta normal.
Normal enough that it will not draw too much attention when it is done.
I think the idea of doing it with free and recycled materials may
have to be rethought.
Which is a travesty.
The light will play a very interesting role in the time to come.

what was shared
The pool is in.
It went up today. It is outside the "poolhouse". It is on the 14 foot
diameter steel plate in the back yard. Hope we do not get struck by
lightning.
I swam much today. Marveling at how simple it was to just put it up
outside the huge structurally unsafe building I was trying to rebuild
before I put the pool up. The garage is now a work space. Or a
working space. Tomorrow I will build a platform to put my ground pad
on. bell and I will sleep out there.
I sat there in the water this evening. It has been used by a number
of people today. The Nephews and Sister. And a couple of the people
who live here. It is like a gift. I am putting it there for people to
enjoy. I can understand why Ea took me to see the filtration system
of the pool so often. He wanted me to appreciate something that he
had done. Either in building it or providing it. I find it funny that
I am looking to this pool for so much. It has been something that I
have always wanted to build. But here I assemble a cheep one. One
from Kmart. But it is nice. 2000 plus gallons of luxury. Morning eve
and afternoon. Till it gets cold. Well chilly. I hope I can take it
down on a nice day. Could it be a skating rink?
heat
It has begun. It was officially 101 today. I worked from 9 am until 4.
At which time I was over heated. I have opened the north side of the
roof.
There were 7 sections of 9 that I took down. I left the outer two
because I am hoping to leave some structure in place.
Also the light in the ally is going to be an issue. If am able to
leave the gable end on the ally side it will eliminate a huge portion
of the light coming in.
In taking the garage down the light will flood the back yard.
Possibly having a bad effect on it. I need to come up with some kind
of a shield for it. Something that comes up from the wall to block it
from the pool and the backyard.
But leaving that wall up will be a challenge structurally. In a high
wind that is like a kite or a sail.
Looking from the deck it does not seem so impressive. From inside it
looks very different. There are two neat pile of debris that I will
put in the truck and drive over to the dump. I will have to find its
weird hours.
I was thinking that doing the north side first I would have the
option of just doing this side for a while. Meaning there would be
shade from the south side. One of the issues coming up is the garage
doors. There needs to be a joist running from one side to the other
to secure the garage doors. I could just take them out completely.
Build up the wall on the ally as new wall. Do I want to use it as a
garage for cars again? This choice would effect that. In the long run
the answer is no. I want to have this as a studio/house.
Temporary house. I could use it during the season when it is not
freezing. I would have to go someplace else.
I have found a number of tapes. Video tapes. Dad had asked me
sometime ago to find the edit of the trip down the Yampa with Bill. I
have found some footage from the Gaga edit. Footage of the pool.
